Gary Anderson's Books
I've had the honor of being called "one of the Midwest's premiere humorists," but I make sure that my
books also contain a healthy sprinkling of inspiration,
as well. Many of the short stories in my books first appeared in my popular "Out Back" column of Living With Energy in Iowa, which I've written since 1996, reaching nearly a quarter million readers every month. In fact, the column is consistently voted the most popular section of the magazine by readers.
In my family-oriented stories, I try to take gentle aim at the human condition, and whether it's through the heartstrings or the funny bone, I'm proud to say that people often write to tell me my books and stories have touched their lives in special ways.
All of my books are available through my publisher's website. Just click on the book you'd
like to examine more closely. You can even browse inside the
covers and read some of my humorous and inspirational stories before you order!
Spider's Night on the Boom (and Other Fiascos)

Here's what readers are saying:
"If you are looking for a book that can bring your family together, this is the one. I was reading this book alone and laughing out loud when my daughter came over and asked, 'What's so funny?' I started reading to her, through my tears of laughter, and soon we were both laughing. Eventually, I read the entire book to her aloud. "How many books can get an 8-year-old to turn off the television? Not many. Mr Anderson combines wit and humor, with good old-fashioned family values. These stories from the heartland convey love and friendship, innocence and wonder. You will not be disappointed with this read!"

"Gary E. Anderson's collection of 'bite-size' short stories contains a little of everything. There are funny tales of his childhood years, humorous recollections of his years as a single father, and stories that are touching and inspirational, as well. There are so many wonderful moments in this book, it's hard to pick my favorite."

"Gary Anderson has a grasp on family life that's rare in literature today. I'd recommend this book to anyone who ever was a kid, anyone who ever was a parent, anyone needing a laugh, or anyone looking for inspiration."
Spider's Big Catch (More Tales from the Heartland)
"Gary Anderson's short stories are sweet, simple, and funny. The author is much on his toes when it comes to describing the simple joys of a Midwesterner's life. I've shared this book with many friends and family members."

"Gary has a knack for seeing the small things in life that we seem to overlook, thereby missing the lightness we all need to balance our lives."
A Heartland Christmas Collection (Miracles, Marvels, and Mayhem)

Other comments about my articles and books
"My eight-year-old, Madison, is going to use Spider's Night on the Boom as
one of the books she's reading for her reading project at school. She
liked it so much that she made me promise not to read it without her!
Thanks for providing a nice warm focus for some wonderful Mommy/Madison
bonding time! You are an amazing writer."
