In the ghostwriting process, my job is to take a writer's original concepts and words and then to polish them and to make them more clear, concise, and professional. Here's an example of what I have done for a client, taken from a manuscript I revised a while ago (one that successfully found a publisher only a few months later):
The original text:
First take a moment to scrub up (clear your mind prepare yourself for this study guide and the next customer. (patient as we will refer to in our quest for better customer satisfaction) ). Here we’re going to start off with the one and most important topic in any customer service industry and that one important factor is STANDING FIRM WITH ACCOUNTABILITY. All right doctors let’s scrub up. Let ‘s take a moment to clear our mind and prepare for this chapter. Now as you are taking this moment to prepare, take 1 to 2 min. to really think about what accountability mean to you. I know that we all think that we are holding others with accountably but how are we doing it?
The completed manuscript:
Take a moment to clear your mind as you prepare to read this chapter. Take a couple minutes to really think about what the term accountability really means to you and to everyone else in your organization. You may think you are holding others accountable for their actions and words, but are you also doing the same thing for yourself?
It’s been said before, but the best way to lead really is by example.
In that light, here are a few questions to ask yourself—and remember, this isn’t a test, and no one but you will know how your answers, so it’s all right to be totally honest. In fact, that’s the only way you’re going to be able to improve. After all, the one person in the world you must be completely truthful with, above all others, is yourself.
