Editing Services
A good editor is a writer's best friend. It's an editor's job to take a writer's words and polish them until they sparkle. Regardless of whether your editing project involves a single article, a complete full-length manuscript, a brochure, mail order copy, web copy, or business-related material, I can make your words shine!
Editing falls into two main categories:
Copyediting
This the most basic type of editing, and involves looking at things such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax. It doesn't involve rearranging material or much in the way of rewriting and reorganization of your content. If your material is already relatively well written, this is the equivalent of taking a chamois cloth out of my back pocket and polishing your words until they shine.
Content Editing
This is a more in-depth type of editing, having to do with the substance of the material, rather than just the basic "nuts and bolts" of the words themselves. It includes such things as reworking difficult language and content. This is one step below the next level of reworking your material, which is ghostwriting.
Things to consider when looking for an editor
There are lots of sharks out there, eager to take your money, and you'll probably be able to find less expensive editing services. But before you sign a contract with any editor, there are a number of questions you'll want to ask.
-
Ask if they have a documented track record. What projects have they worked on in the past? Have any of their previous manuscripts found publishers?
-
-
Do they have both the professional and educational credentials to back up their claims of professionalism?
-
-
How long have they been in the business?
-
-
Do they work fulltime? This is important to you as a writer, since your project will be more important to editors who make their sole livelihood in the editing/writing field.
-
-
Do they have references and/or testimonials from previous clients?
Finding a fair, knowledgeable, experienced, fulltime editor is a lot like finding a good mechanic or doctor. It's not easy, but once you find one, you want to hang on to them and recommend them to your friends. That's one reason there are many references offered on the Client Praise page and throughout this website.
Regardless of what type of editing your project may require, you'll find that I can help. I'll make your words shine, preserve your unique voice, and get your work back to you in a timely manner, at an affordable price!
How much does award-winning editing cost?
Your individual project is unique, of course, and it deserves special consideration, so I can't quote a blanket rate for every manuscript. However, the basic copyediting rate for a book-length manuscript normally begins at $3.00 a page.
